YouTube is raising the bar once again. They’ve recently announced the arrival of their live television streaming option – YouTube Live. The Google owned video sharing platform is taking into conversation the way millennials consume entertainment. Consumers express the need to watch their content when and where they want. They also want to see it on any screen size while avoiding cancellation penalties typically associated with traditional cable contracts.
Here’s what YouTube is promising:
A cloud DVR, with no storage limits.
Viewers can record without running out of space. Moreover, the service lets you record multiple shows simultaneously and will store them for a period of nine months – All this without using precious data on your smartphone.
Access to major television networks with more to come.
YouTube’s TV steaming packages include major television broadcast networks. Live streaming from ABC, CBS, NBC, ESPN. In addition users gets access to E!, Fox News, Fox Business, Disney, Disney Jr, MSNBC, Sprout, Syfy, USA and FX. Showtime is available as an add on.

In the past, advertisers have been reluctant to harness the power of YouTube. Advertisers were concerned with the lack of metrics available to online advertising. YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki confirmed that advertisers no longer need to consider YouTube as a fringe advertising platform – we’ve given our advertisers access to crucial statistics and %91 of our ads are viewable. We’ve partnered with Nielsen giving advertisers metric data that fosters growth.
No official confirmation on the launch date but will soon be available in the largest US markets. The service will expand to to other American cities. No word on when the service is coming to Canada.
